Representing Defaults as Sentences with Reduced Priority

We distinguish between two ways of thinking about defaults. The rst way, in which defaults augment known premises by`strengthening' the underlying logic, is the traditional approach taken by most existing formalisms. In the second way, defaults are represented in the set of premises, but obtain their default status by having a reduced priority relative to the known premises. In this paper we: 1...

Object-Oriented System Specification Using Defaults

This paper aims at integrating techniques of non-monotonic reasoning about updates and of object-oriented speciication of information systems. We present how to utilize defaults in speciications of dynamic system behaviour. Thus overridable rules may be used in spec-iications which deal not only with state structures, but also with state transitions and sequences. Systems are viewed as societie...

Particle Systems with Singular Interaction through Hitting Times: Application in Systemic Risk Modeling

We propose an interacting particle system to model the evolution of a system of banks with mutual exposures. In this model, a bank defaults when its normalized asset value hits a lower threshold, and its default causes instantaneous losses to other banks, possibly triggering a cascade of defaults. The strength of this interaction is determined by the level of the so-called non-core exposure. We...

Multi-Name Extension to the Credit Grades and an Efficient Monte Carlo Method

In this paper, we present a multi-name incomplete information structural model which possess the contagion mechanism and its efficient Monte Carlo algorithm based on Interacting Particle System. Along with the Credit Grades, which is industrially used single-name credit model, we suppose that investors can observe firm values and defaults but are not informed of the threshold level at which a f...

Interacting Particle Systems for the Computation of CDO Tranche Spreads with Rare Defaults

We propose an Interacting Particle System method to accurately calculate the distribution of the losses in a highly dimensional portfolio by using a selection and mutation algorithm. We demonstrate the efficiency of this method for computing rare default probabilities on a toy model for which we have explicit formulas. This method has the advantage of accurately computing small probabilities wi...

Basket CDS pricing with interacting intensities

In this paper we propose a factor contagion model for correlated defaults. The model covers the heterogeneous conditionally independent portfolio and the factor infectious default portfolio as special cases. The model assumes that the hazard rate processes are driven by external common factors as well as defaults of other names in the portfolio. The total hazard construction method is used to d...
